How Much Nicotine is in an Electric Cigarette

April 29, 2010 Comments Off

The nicotine content depends on what the package states, with the usual labeling ranging from none to extra high, while the range varies from companies the following numbers are in the right range—0 mg for none, 6 mg for low, 11 mg for medium, 16 mg for high, and 20 mg for extra high.
An average smoker takes about 15 puffs on a cigarette, which ranges from 1 to 2 mg of nicotine consumption per cigarette. Comparatively, 15 puffs on a 16 mg cartridge would equal about 0.15 mg of nicotine. Thus, the nicotine absorption is far less in an e-cigarette than a regular cigarette.

Second Hand Electronic Cigarette Smoke

There are two important questions that need to be answered about second hand electric cigarette smoke?

Does second hand electronic cigarette smoke contain any nicotine?

Does it smell?

If the answer to both these questions is no, then there is no reason to ban e cig usage in any environment.

Studies have shown that you will absorb about 99% of the nicotine you inhale.  So you will exhale trace amounts of nicotine but at a percentage that is to small to matter.

Personally I notice a slight smell when I breath exhaled e cig smoke but its very faint and not offensive.

Hopefully more airlines and other public places will recognize there is little harm

How to Refill Your Electric Cigarette Cartridges

April 25, 2010 1 comment

Electronic Cigarettes are cheaper than regular cigarettes but if you follow these simple directions you can save even more money on your refills.  It’s a little MacGyver method that only requires you purchase the e juice and aquarium filter material

  1. Remove cart from atomizer, then use tweezers to remove the existing filler material from your electronic cigarette cartridge. Discard old filler material.
  2. Take one sheet of aquarium filter material, peel the sheet in half length-wise. The aquarium filter is exactly twice as thick as it should be, so peeling it in half will give you the perfect width.
  3. Take a pair of  scissors and cut a piece of aquarium filter from the sheet that is exactly as long as your electronic cigarette cartridge, and exactly as wide.
  4. Put the cut piece of aquarium filter inside the tweezer tips so that the full length of the aquarium filter is surrounded by the tweezers.  You are going to insert the entire length of you tweezers inside your cartridge
  5. Insert tweezers with attached aquarium filter into the empty electronic cigarette cartridge, slowly working the aquarium filter down with the tweezers.
  6. Using scissors, cut any excess aquarium filter that is protruding above the top of the electronic cigarette cartridge. The aquarium filter should be level with the top of the electronic cigarette cartridge when you are finished.
  7. Refill the cartridge with your favorite e-liquid, and enjoy the savings!

What is Propylene Glycol?

April 1, 2010 Comments Off

Electronic cigarettes have been described as a perfect alternative to traditional cigarettes and also a health concern of its own. The health concern has been due to the base liquid the nicotine is dissolved in, made of either propylene glycol or glycerin. Propylene glycol is the primary ingredient in e-cigarettes. When a person draws off an e-cigarette, a small amount of the nicotine and propylene glycol are vaporized. The chemical propylene glycol has many uses besides electronic cigarettes. Its found in hand sanitizer, deodorant and as a food additive.
