The Hawaii state legislature is debating a bill that would ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors and impose the 70% tobacco tax on the devices, according to a report by the Hawaii Reporter.
All of the testimony favored a ban on sale of the products to minors, but more than 1,000 individuals and companies protested imposition of the tobacco tax on e-cigarettes, the report said.
State Health Department director Loretta Fuddy told members of the Senate Ways & Means Committee, “There is very little known about the long-term health effects of the use of e-cigarettes or the vapors given off. Recent studies have shown that within one liquid nicotine cartridge there is enough nicotine to cause serious illness or even death.”

With e-cigarettes or also known as E smokes laws and changes in the way states view them were not being received well with smokers. Now that states are including e-cigarettes into current smoking bans smokers are up in arms. Already smoking areas are scarce and now that the states and local governments are treating them like actual cigarettes leaves very few places for people to get the nicotine they need.
If you were to ask a smoker how current regulations and smoking bans have affect them they will surely tell you about the old days when you could smoke anywhere, in a bar, at a park, at school or at the airport. These places have banned smoking and current laws prohibit smoking in many public places. For people trying to quit smoking e-cigarettes were look upon as a blessing, smoker became hopeful because these new e-cigs offered them an alternative method to get around smoking bans and get the nicotine they need anywhere.
One of the new businesses that have opened to sell the new e-cigarettes is The Vaporium located in Lakewood, Wash. The owners name is Kim Thompson and she says her business is doing well because many people want to stop smoking and personal vaporizers also known as e-cigarettes help people wean off the use of traditional cigarettes that are very harmful to their health. The Tacoma-Pierce County where her e-cigarettes shop is located is considering banning the smokeless battery operated electronic cigarettes in the same locations where smoke burning “real” cigarettes are prohibited. The neighboring King County had adopted an e-smoking ban in January 2011 that is very similar to the ban that is now being proposed in Tacoma-Pierce County.
The politicians and most people view e-cigarettes in very much the same way as they view regular cigarettes. The reason for this is because they have been misinformed by receiving false information. This false representation has become frustrating to the people using the e-cigs to help them to quit smoking real cigarettes. E-cigarettes are nothing like “real” smokes. There isn’t the unpleasant smell of smoke left on a person’s breath or cloths; this is because e-cigarettes use water vapor not burning tobacco. There is no real flame because they are battery operated and there is no chance of exposure to second hand smoke. So to treat e-cigs as real cigarettes is not only unfair it makes no sense at all and doesn’t help people to quit real cigarettes which are smelly, smoke filled fire hazards and bad for people’s health.
The main reason governments enforce smoking bans are because real cigarettes are dangerous to non-smokers (second hand smoke), they smell and can cause fires. But e-cigarettes have none of these negative qualities so they should not be banned and put under the same regulations as regular tobacco cigarettes. Actually e-cigarettes, personal vaporizers or E Smokes Laws and Changes in the way some people view them should be encourage not banned. Hundreds of thousands die yearly from dangerous chemicals in cigarettes. But, if e-cigarettes are correctly promoted thousands could be saved yearly because they don’t have the dangerous chemicals regular tobacco cigarettes have.

Conventional wisdom says the easiest way to quit smoking is with cognitive psychotherapy or by hypnosis. The latest electronic cigarettes news suggests e-cigarettes are most effective with smoking cessation by gradually experiencing physical withdrawal by adjusting the amount of nicotine ingested.
New studies on electronic cigarettes suggest there is no conclusive evidence that e-cigarettes are actually effective in helping to quit smoking. The results of current studies agree that “e-cigarettes hold promise as a smoking cessation method and are worthy of further study.”
The AMA says electronic cigarettes are devices that deliver drugs and should be regulated by the FDA. Very little data exists on the safety of e-cigarettes, and the FDA has warned that they are potentially addicting and contain harmful toxins. Because e-cigarettes have not been thoroughly tested, one cannot conclude that they are less harmful or less dangerous than conventional cigarettes.
The fact is the e-cigarette is a device that works. Obviously, it is not healthy to ingest any type of chemical into the body, even in trace amounts. However, the reality is it is the best nicotine replacement method on the market and a definite step up from gum, prescription drugs, or the patch.
According to recent electronic cigarettes news, there are pros and cons to the use of all electronic cigarettes, but the pros seem to lead:
