Latest Electric Cigarette News

Posted on | February 18, 2011 | Comments Off

Conventional wisdom says the easiest way to quit smoking is with cognitive psychotherapy or by hypnosis. The latest electronic cigarettes news suggests e-cigarettes are most effective with smoking cessation by gradually experiencing physical withdrawal by adjusting the amount of nicotine ingested.

New studies on electronic cigarettes suggest there is no conclusive evidence that e-cigarettes are actually effective in helping to quit smoking. The results of current studies agree that “e-cigarettes hold promise as a smoking cessation method and are worthy of further study.”

The AMA says electronic cigarettes are devices that deliver drugs and should be regulated by the FDA. Very little data exists on the safety of e-cigarettes, and the FDA has warned that they are potentially addicting and contain harmful toxins. Because e-cigarettes have not been thoroughly tested, one cannot conclude that they are less harmful or less dangerous than conventional cigarettes.

The fact is the e-cigarette is a device that works. Obviously, it is not healthy to ingest any type of chemical into the body, even in trace amounts. However, the reality is it is the best nicotine replacement method on the market and a definite step up from gum, prescription drugs, or the patch.

According to recent electronic cigarettes news, there are pros and cons to the use of all electronic cigarettes, but the pros seem to lead:
. Electronic cigarettes look and feel like regular cigarettes; they come in a variety of flavors.
. Cartridges are available in a choice of strengths from mild to maximum.
. They are toxin, carcinogen, and tar free.
. Users can puff away without producing any second-hand smoke while it is virtually odorless.
. Purified nicotine satisfies physical and emotional need of smoking, effectively curbing cravings.
. They are not affected by smoking bans and can be used anywhere.
. The absence of any large-scale testing or meaningful scientific evidence that prove the product is beneficial does not exist.
. Public awareness of the positive effects of e-cigarettes based on facts is lacking.

The electric cigarettes news currently has the tobacco industry up in arms because they are 70% cheaper and produce the equivalent of more than 250 regular cigarette puffs. The FDA is attempting to figure out a way to regulate the product and gain government approval. For whatever reasons, these little gizmos are finally holding their own as a viable quit smoking aid and quickly gaining mainstream approval. We often hear about the destructive results of smoking and the damaging effects it has on users. Now we have found a way to end it!

Electric Cigarettes Safer Option Than Traditional Cigarettes

Journal of Public Health Policy Article Compares E-Cigs to Traditional Cigarettes: New Evidence Reveals E-Cigs Are Safer Option

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — A study just released by the Journal of Public Health Policy is taking a closer look at traditional tobacco cigarettes vs. e-cigarettes, and the results are surprising even the biggest skeptics. Based on available evidence, the study “Electronic cigarettes as a harm reduction strategy for tobacco control: A step forward or a repeat of past mistakes?” concluded that e-cigarettes are safer than tobacco cigarettes, and have the potential to become a smoking cessation device. The research was conducted and co-authored by Michael Siegel, a professor of community health sciences at Boston University School of Public Health, and Zachary Cahn, a graduate student in the political science department at the University of California at Berkeley.

Since their introduction to the U.S. Market three years ago, e-cigarettes have been difficult to categorize, leading to debate among government agencies, academics, manufacturers, and consumers about the usage and safety of the devices. Regardless, Charlotte-based blu Cigs, is emerging as a leader in this new, as-yet undefined space, currently the largest domestic provider of e-cigarettes, and the only one whose ingestible ingredients are 100% made in the USA.

Consumers everywhere are increasingly turning to e-cigs as an alternative to smoking, also known as “vaping”. But as awareness grows, so does the debate, as evidenced by the recent ban of blu electronic cigarettes from the Grammy Awards, at the urging of several well-known national health organizations – seemingly based on conjecture rather than hard evidence. As the Journal article indicates, none of the more than 10,000 chemicals present in tobacco – including over 40 known carcinogens – have been found in the cartridges or vapor of electronic cigarettes in anything more than trace quantities. In fact, the research documents only 3 main ingredients in e-cigarettes, comparatively.

blu’s battery-operated e-cigs create a smoke-free vapor “puff” that evaporates in seconds – closely mimicking the experience of smoking, without the tar, ash, tobacco, smell, smoke, or thousands of other chemicals associated with traditional cigarettes.  A clear favorite among U.S. consumers, blu’s cartridges allow users to choose their own flavor and nicotine strength – from zero to 16 milligrams.

“In light of the evidence we’ve shown, it’s unfortunate that so many U.S. health advocacy groups have voiced their support to take e-cigarettes off the market – with little to no research to substantiate their positions,” said Michael Siegel, co-author of the report who has long studied tobacco epidemiology, and has evaluated tobacco-related policies at national, state, and local levels. “To date, I am not aware of any non-tobacco nicotine product that has elicited such dedication among its users, suggesting the rare promise of the e-cigarette as a smoking cessation tool.”

“While the debate over e-cig legislation continues, for the time being users are on their own to verify the quality of the brands they purchase,” said Jason Healy, President of blu. “We’re more diligent than ever when it comes to maintaining our stringent standards of quality control and steady product innovation, so we can continue to deliver the highest caliber product to all of our customers.”

blu Cigs are available at bars, nightclubs, and private airlines nationwide –  or can be purchased online at www.blucigs.com.

Tobacco Tax on Electric Cigarettes – Say It Ain’t So

Posted on | February 7, 2011 | Comments Off

It isn’t the case in the United States yet, but Zirel, an electric cigarette distributor in Switzerland, has learned the Swiss government will be tagging a tobacco tax on their products.

E-cigarettes allow a person to puff tobacco and nicotine-free water vapor and are sold in kiosks and gas stations around Switzerland.

The federal government has levied a tax on these items—importers pay 25 percent of the sales price in taxes on the cigarettes and 10 cents per refill capsule.

Zirel is the company distributing E-cigarettes in Switzerland, and its chief, Barbara Schnackig, says the firm is against the tobacco taxes and has appealed the decision.

A decision on that appeal is pending.

The e-cigarette is designed to still give smokers their  required oral fixation and while it still provides nicotine, it’s inhaled only as a vapour rather than smoke.

When not e-smoking between takes, Katherine was seen walking around holding a cup and dressed in black jeans, black boots and a denim jacket for her role in the film.

The natural blonde is also seen sporting dark hair for her latest role as Stephanie Plum,  an out-of-work lingerie saleswoman whose husband leaves her.

Smoking vs Vaping

Posted on | December 17, 2010 | Comments Off

Smoking has become a battle between those who have rights to smoke, and those who have the right to breathe clean air. Most people who have tried stopping can testify that it is not easy. A cigarette, or lack of one can put a person in a mood that may not be a happy place but until they shake the addiction, will have to learn how to handle it. The electric cigarette can help the smoker learn to quit without all the terrible side effects that goes with it.

Although this item looks like a real cigarette, it is made of plastic. The filter has as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. When the nicotine runs out, simply add a new filter, and your back in business. This allows the smoker to continue with the physical and social habit of smoking, while helping take edge off of the addiction as well as well as the harmful chemicals that tobacco provides.

This cigarette is interesting, as it looks very real. It is made from plastic and the filters are replaceable when the nicotine runs out. Each filter has the same amount of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. When it runs out, simply take it off and put on another one. As time goes on, the smoker can purchase filters that have less nicotine, which eventually will help him quit.

The nice thing about the filters, is that it contains the nicotine that every smoker craves, but does not contain any of the other hundreds of chemicals associated with cancer and all the other health problems. It is a nice alternative to smoking tobacco.

The end of the cigarette will light up when the smoker inhales it. It will appear to others like a normal, regular cigarette and will blend in with all the other smokers. Most people won’t even notice the difference.

People who use this cigarette also are able to smoke indoors as it does not give out any smoke or fumes of any kind. It could even be used in the department stores, but it is advised that you don’t because many people do not like the act of smoking at all.

Although purchasing this whole kit can be a little costly, it can lead a smoker on the road to quitting for good. It is a good alternative to the tobacco cigarettes and much healthier. Electric cigarettes are the growing interest and may someday become even more popular.

FDA cannot block e-cigarette imports

Posted on | December 8, 2010 | Comments Off

Today a US appeal court ruled that the FDA can not treat electric cigarettes as drugs.  Therefore the FDA can not ban the import of electronic cigarettes

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration can only regulate “e-cigarettes” as tobacco products and not as drugs, and thus cannot block their import, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Tuesday.

The ruling by three judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit infuriated tobacco activist groups and will allow e-cigarette maker Sottera Inc. to start importing its NJOY products.

“Electronic cigarettes are battery-powered products that allow users to inhale nicotine vapor without fire, smoke, ash, or carbon monoxide,” the court said in its ruling.

“The liquid nicotine in each e-cigarette is derived from natural tobacco plants.”
